The Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-ITI) invites applications for the position of Researcher in Communication and Academic Management in the scope of the Horizon 2020 “PIE News” project (Poverty, Income, and Employment News).
The person will integrate the Horizon 2020 “PIE News” project (Poverty, Income, and Employment News). The overall ambition of the PIE News project is to foster the emergence of commonfare as an alternative economic model to fight poverty, a condition affecting some 25% of the European population. Commonfare is a new collaborative form of welfare provision based on equitable governance and grassroots democracy.
The person will support the project and M-ITI’s team in all that relates to the communication and promotion of PIE NEWS R&D results, events and other initiatives carried out within M-ITI. The person will help to promote the international partnerships with Carnegie Mellon University, U.T. Austin and U.C. London. Among the tasks: social media management, website presence, press releases, liaison with the press and other media. The setup and dissemination of events and talks is to be coordinated with the whole M-ITI community. The person will prepare project promotion materials, such as posters, leaflets.
In addition, there will be activities related to academic management: Contact with international researchers, potential students, aiding them to apply, travel to and settle in Madeira, find scientific advisers. As academic manager, the person will liaise with other R&D partner institutions in order to streamline researchers’ integration processes.
The desired profile is the one of a person with proven experience in communication and marketing, comfortable working in an international multicultural environment. The professional background must show acquaintance with the R&D world.
The selection criteria include:
- 50% experience in related tasks
- 30% ability to work in international multicultural environments
- 20 % communication skills
The candidate should be in possession of a Masters, or close to completion, in the field of communication/languages/economics at the time of application.

Fellowship value: The monthly maintenance stipend for a Science and Technology Management Scholarship (BGCT) is 745€ net minimum, according to the Portuguese directives from the ministry of science and education www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.en). This value can be complemented with social security reimbursement if the researcher subscribes the voluntary SSV according to the Portuguese Law – Lei Nº. 202/2012, de 27 de Agosto.
